Ry and Mandy: New Car Love and Carbonara

Anyway, enough about our car...
Settling in to school has been pretty smooth so far. Ry and I both have 8:00am classes - death, I know. I did it because I pay better attention in the mornings. Ryan did it because he's crazy - oh, and he said something about how he had to. Ryan's class load is stuffed with econ, Econ, and ECON! Mine, music and generals. P.S. I have a junior recital coming up on Feb. 24th at 5:30. Save the date if you want to come :o)
Tonight was my first experience cooking with white wine. I've never even smelled wine that close before; only on people's breath and stuff. Kind of crazy, maybe I'm just paranoid that the alcohol didn't "cook out" of it. Either way, the Carbonara tasted okay. (Well, except for the fact that I didn't convert some things for the elevation.... lame, stupid noodles).
Thanks Ruth for the Rachel Ray cookbook. :) I'm going to try to try one new recipe a week. Ryan has promised to be honest with me.

Dang Nintendo. Ryan and I can't get anything done unless we play one Nintendo 64 Grand Prix 150 CC Mario Kart tournament.

There is a right and wrong answer here regarding ignorance. We are discussing ignorance. You may want to keep shifting the discussion to your conclusionary point, but I will stay on topic.
You can say you are not trying to "force" your position all you want. It's a misdirection. Since the discussion is about ignorance, you are indeed trying to force a position. It's clear to me that it's incredibly easy to be your kind of fake discourse in which we don't expect anything of each other other than an opinion.
But, opinions, as that saying goes, is like a holes in that everyone's got one. What separates the good ones from the bad ones is whether they move forward public debate in a constructive way.
Someone ignorantly spouting off is not as useful as a spokesperson (again what she has chosen) who is versed. Even if I disagree with such a person at least it creates a frame from which we can come to a common mind toward compromise. You offer no such structure.

Your position is indefensible with regard to reasoned discussion. It only makes sense in a faux sense of discussion in which people don't understand the subject matter.
In such a discussion, it's just as easy as to throw a dot at the board as to come to a clear understanding. The three questions I asked before about Melissa's ignorance is my problem with her. You ignored my thesis:
Ignorance is never a good thing for public discourse.
On that point, there is a right and wrong answer.
Just like if someone said 2+2 equals 10 is not a useful discourse by saying "well that's just that person's views.'
Yes it is. But it's still wrong. Melissa needs to understand the issues outside of herself and her circle of friends if she's going to put herself out as a spokesperson. Just like one would expect a person saying 2+2 equals 10 to be corrected.
It's really that simple. Spin as might, that's the issue here being discussed. I think you may labor under the American public view that anything regarding public policy is a matter of how one personally feels without regard to what our system is.

It could be getting to the point where I feel like telling Melissa Etheridge to stick to singing. But, this is America and everyone is entitled to their opinion even when they don't square with the activist person we thought she was - the woman who coined the "throw us under the bus" line and threatened post-Prop 8 to not pay her taxes since she could no longer get married in California.
So Etheridge went on NPR again today and again defended Barack Obama's choice of homophobic pastor Rick Warren to say the innvocation at the inauguration. Towleroad.com has a nice transcript and audio link but the part where Melissa loses me is when interviewer Guy Raz played her the clip of Warren comparing homosexuality to polygamy and incest and in response Etheridge lamely says:
"Just because he [likens gay marriage to polygamy and incest] does not mean I have to not speak to him, or I don't want to ever be in his company. [...] We had a crazy experience at the Muslim Public Affairs Council Conference. They invited him, and me, not knowing that it would be such a dichotomy at the time. So we met. We spoke. [...] He said he was trying to make the definition of marriage not change -- not necessarily saying that gays are pedophiles or any of that stuff. One can draw whatever they want from that."
Egads. I've had enough.
